(8657) Cedrus ist ein Asteroid des äußeren Hauptgürtels, der am 16. August 1990 von dem belgischen Astronomen Eric Walter Elst am La-Silla-Observatorium (IAU-Code 809) im Südosten Frankreichs der Europäischen Südsternwarte in Chile entdeckt wurde.

Der Asteroid ist Mitglied der Koronis-Familie, einer Gruppe von Asteroiden, die nach (158) Koronis benannt ist.cite-ref-1[1]

Der Himmelskörper wurde nach der lateinischen Bezeichnung Cedrus für die Gattung der Zedern benannt.
